A No 7 Australia international jersey from the collection of Clive Rowlands, Wales 1963-65. The jersey was exchanged with Des Connor in 1969 who opposed him as coach in the Australia v Wales test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Desmond Michael 'Des' Connor played 12 tests for Australia 1957-59 before moving to New Zealand in 1960. The quality of his play was such that he was soon selected to represent his new country. He had the distinction of playing a further 12 tests for the All Blacks between 1961 and 1964. The Australian historian Jack Pollard says of him:

"One of the finest halfbacks to play for Australia. He made important contributions to Australian rugby as a player, coach and selector and provided all countries with an interesting innovation when he invented the short lineout. He ranks high amongst the game's strategists,"

The first shortened lineout took place in the second Australia v New Zealand test match at Ballymore on 22nd June 1968. Australia only played two internationals in 1959, both of these were against the British Lions so this jersey could only be from this test series. Des Connor played in both test matches, the second test in Brisbane was his last appearance for the Wallabies before his move to take take up a teaching post in Auckland, NZ,
